As Repertory Philippines officially kicks of their 75th season and also their 45th anniversary on 2012, they officially announce their line-up last October 2 at the Enderun Colleges in McKinley Hills, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig and gives their patrons and show buyers a teaser of 5 plays that they will be presenting. Their 2012 line-up is a combination of music, magic, suspense, drama and comedy. It includesThe Next Fall, Leading Ladies, Jekyll & Hyde, The Wizard of Oz and Camp Rock. The said announcement was done by Repertory Philippines’ Associate Artistic Director Menchu Lauchengco – Yulo and Repertory Philippines Children’s Theater Artistic Director Joy Virata.
A funny yet inspiring story of gay couple who loves each other but the only thing that set the apart is the thing they called faith. It will revolve to the five year relationship of Luke who believes in God and Adam who believes in other things. Everything is balance between the two until accident happen where Adam must turn to Luke’s family and friends for support and answers to all the questions inside him. The modern day romance shows funny and witty lines at the same time inspiration that will let every viewers discover the beauty and power of love.
It is written by Geoffrey Nauffts and initially opened off-Broadway in 2009 before transferring to the Helen Hayes Theatre in February, 2010 and now at the Greenbelt 1 Onstage on the first month of 2012 for the presentation of Repertory Philippines. Rep Phils’ presentation of Next Fall will be directed by Audie Gemora with Bart Guingona and David Bianco to play Adam and Luke.
After Shakespeare In Hollywood, Repertory Philippines brings another Ked Ludwig play at the Ontage on Greenbelt 1 on the second week of February 2012 entitled Leading Ladies. This farce follows the two down-on-their-luck Shakespearean actors who is in need of money and they want to have it as faster they can get. After hearing the news that a wealthy old lady will be dying soon and will be leaving fortune to her two long lost English nephews the two actors rushed down to the York to get it. Unfortunately, the old lady is looking for nieces not nephews and from there Jack and Leo the two English actors must work they way in as English “women” in order to swindle the old woman’s fortune.
Michael Williams will be directed the play while James Stacey and Toffer Fabregas playing the role of Leo and Jack with Cara Barredo. The play will run from February 10 to March 4, 2012.
Everyone has a dark side; this is the concept of Jekyll & Hyde the Musical that is based from the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde a novel by Robert Louis Stevenson that was also adapted to a film. The original stage conception was by Steve Cuden and Frank Wildhorn. The music is by Wildhorn and the lyrics and book are by Leslie Bricusse. It was presented in Houston in 1990 and later to Broadway in 1997. Jekyll & Hyde follows the Doctor Henry Jekyll who tries his experiment to himself that results to the emergence of another character which is Edward Hyde. Hyde, opposite to a proper and respectful Jekyll is a cruel and brutal person where one of his victims is Lucy Harris the prostitute who attends Jekyll’s bachelor party and later finds attraction to each other.
Mechu Lauchengco-Yulo will be directing Repertory Philippines presentation of Jekyll & Hyde where Jet Pangan a first timer on Rep Phils stage will be alternating with Michael Williams in portraying the role of Jekyll & Hyde with Chris Villongco as Lucy.
After the success of Seussical, Repertory Philippines Children Theater will be bringing back an old time favorite play and will be bringing all the children and children at heart in Oz and let you walk in the yellow brick road with Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion. The Wizard of Oz the musical is based from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Among the actors joining the cast are Cara Barredo, Butuin Escalante, Oliver Usison, and Hans Eckstein.
From Peter Pan that is magical and musical, Repertory Philippines will be bringing Disney’s Camp Rock in Manila that is glossy and musical. This will be Rep Phils season ender performance of 2012 that I am sure the production will be big, glossy and lively that will cater to all youth and even to those young at heart. It about reaching out your dream and fulfilling that dream by making things possible.
This musical play will be directed by Audie Gemora and will the cast will be a combination of new and fresh talents and not so “veteran” in Repertory Philippines.
