Late last year there was an elegant restaurant built near ABS-CBN in Quezon City. With its sophisticated exterior it denotes a high end ambiance which for an ordinary person they are serving expensive cuisine. Luckily I had the chance to break that impression when I discover it is also a concept restaurant of The Red Crab Company just like the Seafood Island, Flying Pig and John Bamboo that offers big servings of delicious dishes on a very affordable prices. But the difference of this new restaurant is that it has duality in terms of names and cuisine. In the morning from 10am to 9pm Monday – Sunday, the restaurant is known to be as Old Manila Bistro Patio Carlito or just Patio Carlito that offers more of innovative and developed Filipino Cuisine while by 9pm to 2am Monday – Sunday it turns to WhiteHouse on 84th Restobar & Live Entertainment, a night life hub that offers acoustic music, drinks and bar dishes.
The restaurant is divided into six areas: TV Rooms (25-30 seating capacity), The Terrace (30-35 seating capacity), Piano Room (35-40 seating capacity), The Sala (35-35 seating capacity), Bar Room (20-25 seating capacity), and The Garden (80-100 seating capacity). Rooms can be reserved and use for special functions up to three hours with minimum of P5, 000 food purchase.
Here are some of the dishes that I tried from Patio Carlito along with my friends:
This reminds of my favorite chicken curry minus the curry powder. The tender chicken meat cooked on coconut milk with sliced sayote, real coconut meat, siling panigang and ginger. Savor the spicy-sweetness of the sauce and the tenderness of chicken meat especially the breast and leg part.
Savor the tenderness of marinated roasted duck that compliments with the special sauce that best partner with steamed rice. It is good for 3-4 persons.
This dish is good for those who wanted to experience adventure in terms of food trip. This succulent pork chops fermented until it’s tender accompanied with fried Longganisa Candaba that is spicy and delicious but for those who are sensitive in terms of aroma of what they are eating they should be cautious about this one.
Enjoy the sweet and juicy fried young pork meat with a choice of gravy sauce or vinegar with chili. Cuchifrito is one of the bestselling dishes in Patio Carlito because of the juicy meat and crispy skin that truly melts on the mouth.
Patio Carlito gives an alternative way to prepare our all time favorite tinapang bangus. Instead with the usual frying it and serve it with tomato and bagoong/patis. They cook it with miso bringing the salty and sour flavor that blends in the mouth.
All time favorite Ilocano dish that is served with sliced pork meat with the sweetness of fresh vegetables cooked in bagoong sauce.
One of the dishes I love in Patio Carlito. It is deep fried pork chops on top of adobong kangkong. Enjoy the sweetness of soy based sauce with kangkong leaves making it a perfect dish to accompany steamy rice.
This fried rice is good for three-four persons that infused with the delicious taste of adobo with crispy fried adobo flakes on top.
This is my favorite version of fried rice having a light salty taste because of the shrimp paste. The aroma is very appetizing.
Enjoy the strong chocolate sweetness of Tsokolate Batirol on a fried suman that has crunchy texture outside and moist inside with slices of ripe mango.
The best way to eat desert is when it is served cold. Patio Carlito introduces their version of Brazo de Mercedez that is good for two-three persons per order. From the usual roll shape Brazo de Mercedez, this frozen desert comes in triangular slice that has crashed graham based, creamy white layer s and caramel like inner fillings top with cherry and caramel syrup.
Seeing the whole menu of Patio Carlito, the way it was presented on a very Filipino way like when they call red meat as pula, seafood as palaisdaan ni rey, rice as day kanin naman and so many more. Even its interior was very intimidating and expensive, the restaurant serves delicious Filipino cuisine that is very affordable and big in servings.
