Love finds its way to Manila now that 9 Works Theatrical presents The Wedding Singer the Musical Comedy in the stage of Meralco Theater from October 23 to November 14. The musical comedy is based from the 1998 New Line Cinema movie that features Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore with the same title. The movie made the song “Grow Old with You” popular as the movie crosses from the big screen to stage of Broadway in 2006.
The role Robbie Hart that Sandler played in the movie will be performed by GMA 7’ Gian Madrigal who also did the role of Roger in 9 Works Theatrical’s Rent the Musical. Hart is a wedding singer from Ridgefield, New Jersey and engaged with his long-time girlfriend Linda played by Myrene Santos but instead going straight marriage they broke up and turns Robbie’s life upside down. He met Julia Sulivan played by ABS-CBN’s Iya Villana (Shiela Valderrama – alternate) who is a waitress at the wedding reception where he usually performs.
From his last project with 9 Works Theatrical which is Rent, Gian mentioned that he is grateful that they trusted him and give him a role in The Wedding Singer. Gian’s statement was seconded by the director the local production of the musical play Robbie Guevarra that during his (Madrigal) audition in Rent he sees the potential of the actor of doing Hart’s role.
