DreamWorks and Touchstone Pictures through Walt Disney Pictures brings back Emma Stone to the big screen this year for the film The Help. The Help is a film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s 2009 novel of the same title and it is directed by Tate Taylor. The movie also stars Mike Vogel, Bryce Dallas Howard, Viola Davis, and Octavia Spencer.
The Help follows the story of Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan (Stone), a southern society girl who returns to Mississippi after graduating from college. Skeeter dreams to be a writer, and sees the opportunity to interview a black woman named Aibileen Clark (Viola Davis) as her piece. It was the time when social status in based from the color of the skin, and Clark is a housemaid in one of the prominent southern families in Mississippi. The said interview opens the mind and heart of Skeeter about the current situation of racial discrimination during her times, and it will lead her in a quest to search for her childhood nanny.
The Help will be showing in all cinemas worldwide by third quarter of 2011. It is distributed by DreamWorks and Touchstone Pictures through Walt Disney Pictures here in the Philippines.
