After its huge success in its opening last July 28, Master Class will have its final run on August 12,13, 14 and 15, 2010 (Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3:30 p.m) at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater, RCBC Plaza in Makati City. The play is presented by the Philippine Opera Company directed by Michael Williams and starring Cherie Gil as Maria Callas. Master Class was written by Terence McNally and won 1996 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play and the Tony Award for Best Play at the same year.
Master Class follows the triumph of Maria Callas as an American-born Greek soprano opera performer and her struggle after she lost her voice and became a music professor teaching students to deepen their love and passion as a performer. Aside from the usual class room set up the memories of Callas in her reign as the La Divina of the Opera flashed back along with her true love Ari (Aristotle Onassis).
Master Class is produced by the Philippine Opera Company and also features Juan Alberto Gaerlan as Anthony Candolino and Al Gatmaitan (alternate), Florence Aguilar as Sophie de Palma, Ana Feleo as Sharon Graham and Kay Balajadia-Liggayu (alternate), Chino Veguillas as stage hand and Francis Amora as the pianist Manny.
