Coming from Wansapanataym Presents Yamishita’s Treasure and box office success of You’re My Boss, the King of Primetime TV Coco Martin will be returning to a serious character soon on ABS-CBN as one of the iconic role played by the King of Philippine Movie, Fernando Poe Jr. ABS-CBN and Dreamscape officially announced the project of the TV adaptation of Ang Probinsyano of FPJ and Coco will be immortalizing the said character together with Albert Martinez, Agot Isidro, Angeline Quinto, Arjo Atayde, Bela Padilla, Jaime Fabregas and Susan Roses.
Ang Probinsyano will be Coco’s first full length action-drama project under ABS-CBN after the successful portrayal of one of the SAF 44 commanders in a special 2-part tribute of Maalaala Mo Kaya together with Angel Locsin and Ejay Falcon. Supporters of Coco is used to romcom and dramatic roles he did before. Walang Hanggan is the TV series he did with Maja Salvador that is somewhat near to ther role he will be portraying.
Ang Probinyano was a 1997 film that stars, written and directed by FPJ. The story focused on Kardo taking the place of Ador, his twin brother that was killed in a drug bust operation because of the betrayal of his fellow police. Kardo was also a police in the province and because they are identical, he was asked to take the place of his brother in order to capture the drug syndicate and the corrupt policemen responsible for his death.
The project pays tribute to FPJ by ABS-CBN whereas they showed his iconic movies on air on Channel 2 and in the defunct Studio 23. There were other tributes to Da King in other channels of ABS-CBN and other media platforms in 2013.
With the TV adaptation of Ang Probinsyano with longer airtime from the usual movie’s total running time of maximum 2 hours, the story might be extended and will have bigger parts to other characters. More details will be revealed soon so keep posted. Ang Probinsyano will be directed by Malu Sevilla and Sunpongco. During the official announcement, ABS-CBN President and CEO Charo Santos-Concio and FPJ’s wife and Queen of Philippine Movie Susan Roses headed the said good news.
