After her successful portrayal of the characters that we all loved from Master Class, Nine and Full Gallop, multi-awarded actress Cherie Gil returns on stage with a comedy-musical entitled Arbol de Fuego at the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) Theater in Quezon City from February 20 to March 14, 2015. PETA’s Arbol de Fuego is a reimagining of Anton Chekov’s classic comedy the Cherry Orchard which was made possible by multi-awarded winning writer Rody Vera and world renowned New York based designer and director Loy Arenas.
Cherie Gil will be playing the role of Enriquetta Jardeleza-Sofronio a middle-aged matriarch who comes home from Madrid being forced to sell their estate to pay off the family’s huge debts. But still she wanted to be part of the altas who wanted to be recognized in their town as rich who loves throwing lavish parties. As she enjoys the glass of wine and chit-chatting with her rich friends she reminisces their luxurious past amidst their depleting wealth.
Arbol de Fuego tells the story of an aristocratic family’s decline in 1970’s Negros Occidental during the time of the Marcos regime. Joining Gil in this musical comedy are rian best actress awardee Angeli Bayani, British Independent Film Award nominee Jake Macapagal, Bembol Roco, Anna Luna, Leo Rialp, Raffy Tejada and Riki Benedicto.
