>February 17, Manila Intercon, Makati City – Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions (CLIS) awards Winston Maxino a 47 years old Corporate Executive as the winner of the Happiest Pinoy of 2010. The search promotes the values of optimism, resilience, and hope through the inspiring stories of the Filipinos nationwide. From the hundreds of entries it was short listed to seven finalists with remarkable stories of triumph in life. Here are the seven finalists:
Nona D. Andaya – Castillo – a 47 year old teacher and consultant, she advocates for family health, maternal protection and child health rights.
Rex Bernardo – a 39 year old academician who was afflicted with polio yes his disability doesn’t hinder him from getting proper education.
Gerardo Gamez – a 44 years old salesman who faces death six times and lost his left arm because of an accident.
Celestino Habito – 90 year old retired professor who was an educator for so many years and works at United Nation as FAO training officer.
Carolina Reyes – 78 years old housewife and lecturer who won as the 1998 Gintong Ina Awardee.
Maria Kathrina Lopez Yarza – a 26 years old artist, blogger and entrepreneur who suffered Neurofibromatosis Type II, a very rare genetic disease which paralyzed her left extremities and damaged her ability to swallow, see and hear. Yet here illness doesn’t hinder her to pursue her life instead she fight for it and find ways to earn for her medication and now she helps other patients who has the same case like her.
Winston Maxino a 47 year old corporate executive who was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a degenerative bone condition that requires him to take pain relievers every day and quarterly Remicade infusions to help him cope with it. Aside from the health problem he is facing it is a hard news for him to discover that his second daughter, Brina, was born with Down Syndrome but instead of seeing it as a problem he use it as his source of strength including his other children and his wife. He is now the Chief Executive Officer of Hooven Philippines and now 200,000 pesos richer as the recipient of the prize for the first Happiest Pinoy of Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions. He will also spearhead the CLIS’ thrust towards giving Filipinos quality and affordable insurance. Here is the speech of Maxino:
