From a sold out and full house performance plus extensions, Dulaang UP brings back Ang Nawalang Kapatid this July for a limited presentation only at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, 2nd floor Palma Hall, University of the Philippines Diliman. Ang Nawalang Kapatid is an adaptation of India’s greatest epic The Mahabharata that was spearheaded by acclaimed playwright Floy Quintos under the direction and choreography of Dexter Santos with original music by Ceejay Javier.
Ang Nawalang Kapatid will be running on July 4-6, 11-13, 2014 for a benefit show where the proceeds will be for the improvement of UP Diliman’s famed theaters- Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater and Teatro Hermogenes Ylagan- bastions of DUP plays. This is a joined project of DUP and UP Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts that’s now celebrating 55th anniversary.
The story takes on the family and blood ties, and the conflicts that these bring about. Karna, who in Indian literature is traditionally the anti-hero, is now a young man searching for his dharma, his truth and destiny, while unaware of his true blood ties.
