Viva Entertainment artist Rachelle Ann Go will take her singing and theater career in a higher level after getting the role of Gigi Van Tranh at the 2014 presentation of Miss Saigon in London together with two fellow Filipinos. Rachelle Ann’s character was popularized by Isay Alvarez in the 1989 Miss Saigon in the West End where Lea Salonga played the role of Kim. The announcement was made last November 22 and the presentation is set on May 2014.
Rachelle Ann’s role, Gigi is a delusional and hardened Saigon stripper that was initially voted as “Miss Saigon”. She works in a club where the U.S. Marines spent their sleepless nights in Saigon after the Vietnam War where Kim a seventeen-year-old girl is one of the new faces that the place offers. Gigi is the character behind the song The Movie in My Mind together with Kim and the rest of the bar girls reflecting their aims and hopes to be in the Dreamland which is America.
Before bagging the Gigi role for Miss Saigon 2014, Rachelle Ann Go did the lead roles for the Atlantis Production of The Little Mermaid (2011) and Tarzan (2013). She is a product of Search for a Star in 2004 where she won grand champion and later releases platinum records and sold out concerts in the Philippines.
Aside from Rachelle Ann, fellow Filipinos joining her in the West End revival of Miss Saigon are Filipino-American Eva Noblezada who will be doing Kim and Jonjon Briones as the Engineer. Other main cast members of Miss Saigon 2014 are Alistair Brammer as Chris, Hugh Maynard as John, and Tamsin Carroll as Ellen.
