After the successful presentation of Cinemalaya 2013 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and selected Ayala Malls Cinema last July 26 until August 4, Ekstra under the Directors’ Showcase category will be having its commercial distribution this month through Star Cinema. Directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and with the Star for all Season and current Governor of Batangas Vilma Santos played the lead role in the film. Ekstra will be shown in all cinemas nationwide beginning August 14.
Ekstra or bit player is a socio-realist drama-comedy film that follows the story of Loida Malabanan (Vilma). For Loida, being a bit player it was a dream come true for her to work with her idols on TV and movie. Which the film offers a power cast including Piolo Pascual, Pilar Pilapil, Cherie Gil, Cherry Pie Picache, Richard Yap, and Marian Rivera. The film will also showcase the hard ship and a glimpse of the truth on the sweet and bitter journey of bit players in the production that sometimes experienced exploitations at work.
This Cinemalaya 2013 film gave the Best Actress award to Vilma after allowing herself to embrace the character of a bit player and let her self be deglamorized in order to present the role very well. Joining Vilma in the film are Marlon Rivera, Vincent de Jesus, Ruby Ruiz, and Tart Carlo. Ekstra also won the Netpac prize and the Audience Choice. Ruby won Best Supporting Actress and the film also wins Best Screenplay.
Ekstra is one of the four films that Star Cinema will be distributing this August including Raketeros with Herbert Bautista, Andrew E, and Dennis Padilla, Pee Mak a Thai film that stars Mario Maurer and OTJ (On the Job) which stars Gerald Anderson, Piolo Pascual, Joel Torre and Joey Marquez. All four films are part of the 20 years offering of Star Cinema.
