After their successful tandem in Tayong Dalawa as Ramon and Greta, independent film royalties Coco Martin and Alessandra de Rossi reunite in a film entitled Santa Nina. Directed by Emmanuel Quindo Palo, Santa Nina is one of the finalists in Cinemalaya 2012’s New Breed Full-Length Feature category. All films included in Cinemalaya 2012 will be showing in Cultural Center of the Philippines, Greenbelt 3 and TriNoma Mall from July 20-29, 2012.
Santa Nina follows the story Paulino “Pol” Mungcal (Martin) who unexpectedly digs up the remains of her 2-year old daughter named Marikit in a lahar-filled quarry. Seeing that there are no signs of decay in her deceased daughter even though she was buried for so long, Pol thought it was a miracle and there’s a reason for her return. Thinking that her deceased daughter can cure any kind of sickness, he immediately asked the church to declare her a saint but unknown to Pol there’s a bigger reason for her return to his life and that is curing of his wounded soul and the rest of his family separated by hatred that was buried in their heart for so long.
