After seeing the success of Hello Stranger, Star Cinema brings Chantavit “Ter” Dhanasevi here in the Philippines with his love team Preechaya “Ice” Pongthananikorn to promote their movie ATM which will be showing in selected SM Cinemas beginning June 6. Produced by biggest Thai film outfit Gmm Tai Hub Co., Ltc/ (GTH) that has grossed 152.5 million baht that is equivalent to 950, 000 tickets sold in Bangkok, ATM ranks number in the list of Thailand’s all-time biggest hits. And with the romantic comedy theme, Star Cinema sees the potential on how Filipinos might fall in love with the movie along with the characters they will be distributing it here in the country.
I had the chance to see the film last weekend during the premiere night and see the main characters in the movie. Both of them reminds me John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin on how they portrayed their roles as Sua and Jim who were both bank employees hiding their relationship at work because of the non-fraternal clause that their company imposes among the employees. The story is simple but what made the movie ATM beautiful is that how they make the love story complicated and fun when the lovers tried to outwit one another because of the agreement between the two of them that the person who failed to trace the persons who took extra money from the ATM will be resigning from work and fulfill their marriage plan.
Aside from the fun and lovely tandem of Ter and Ice in the movie, secondary characters add spices to the movie to make it more witty and funny at the same time. The taxi driver, local bank manager, laundry shop owner, the person who uses the extra money to avail a crocodile as pet and the young lovers that is madly in love each other. The film ATM gives a view of how its look like in Thailand showing some scenes in their favorite sport, city, religion and the fad among young couples.
ATM was directed by Mez Theraton and already shown in Indonesia and Singapore. Aside from the Philippines it is set to be shown in Taiwan and Malaysia.
