Just a warning for those who will be seeing this amazing film: find a perfect and comfortable seat where you can enjoy a film that includes extreme camera movement to make it more fun watch and not get dizzy. So I am giving a hint on what to expect in Chronicle which is currently showing in all cinemas nationwide that is distributed by 20th Century Fox. Starring Dane DeHaan, Michael B. Jordan and Alex Russell, the sci-fi film that has almost three-fourths of the scenes has a treatment of being shot in a hand held amateur camera was directed by Josh Trank and written by Max Landis.
The film follows the struggle of Andrew (DeHaan), a high school teenager that is very dependent with his cousin Matt (Russell) and draws strength from his bedridden sick mother. With his camera that serves his diary where he sends all his ranting, frustrations and anger that files up inside his heart including the one from his battered father. Matt with Steve (Jordan) discovered a mysterious hole in the ground that emits a loud and strange sound and they convinced Andrew to take video of it. With the curiosity of the three teenagers, they entered the hole and start having extraordinary powers that includes telekinesis and the ability to fly. But with a wounded soul, Andrew was corrupted and unable to contain the power that burst with his emotions which he became destructive and uncontrollable.
Chronicle, reflects the story of everyone who wanted to be free with their emotions but the way the movie was presented it shows also how anger and pain can be more powerful when it was uncontrolled. This is how things happen to Andrew, a wounded soul who had the burst of emotions and used power to revenge but he ended dying because he used it the wrong way. The story is simple, but the extraordinary thing that will really wows the viewers who will be seeing this movie is the way most of the scenes were shot. With a treatment of being shot on an amateur camera which was owned by Andrew it sticks on the objective we see through his life including the pain, the time he wanted to burst our and his corruption.
Chronicle gives the viewer the change to see and experience things visually on how to fly and witness things in the lives of the three characters that is very amazing for those who wanted scenes to be presented raw and candid. But of course we all know it part of script on how it should be done and it was executed perfectly. When you ask me if it’s worth watching? Chronicle is a kind of movie who wanted to watch out of the box movie and you will appreciate every scene especially if you’re sitting on the right comfortable place.
