Sometimes in life there are only two things we do believe – what we see and what we feel. And this year, as Repertory Philippines opened their 45th theater season they will open it with a controversial yet meaningful straight play entitled Next Fall. A gay-themed drama written by Geoffrey Nauffts that was brought by Rep Phils in the country and features actors namely Bart Guingona and David Bianco playing the gay couple Adam and Luke. The play will be staged at the Onstage, Greenbelt 1 in Makati City on January 13 – February 5, 2012 and it was directed by veteran theater actor and director Audie Gemora.
Despite of the age gap and differences in beliefs, Adam and Luke remains passionate and trying to compliment to each other. Adam is agnostic and old, while Luke is young and a Christian. For Luke, it’s hard to convince Adam to embrace the faith he is introducing him, while Adam beyond anything the only thing he holds aside from all the things he feared in life was Luke whom he loved so much. But things become more complicated for the couple especially Adam when Luke he met an accident that will make him hold on for love and find refuge to their friends including Luke’s family to get answers that he longed for.
Bart and David did a wonderful job in portraying the roles of Adam and Luke, they compliment to each other. Bart a very agnostic and hard to pleased person that worries about everything and has the tendency to exaggerate it and David who was true to his love and find refuge through his faith that he holds on too aside from his lover. Each character including the roles that Liesl Batucan, Niccolo Manahan, Juno Henares, and Miguel Faustmann did in the story reflects reality, on how we seeks contentment in life with others rather than seeking it inside us, on how we run away from our problems and putting walls hoping it will make us strong and on how we wanted to be strong but in the end we are week and we need help. This is how Next Fall shares a piece in the lives of everyone, straight or now, believers or not.
Yes, it really moves me; the story was great and moving. Beyond everything there was love and things that we should accept to be stronger. Next Fall will run from January 13 – February 5, 2012 with matinee shows on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30 p.m. All performances are at Onstage, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.
