In line with the celebration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s 150th birthday, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) produces ten million pieces of the newly-minted coin featuring national hero. The commemorative one-peso coin has the same size of the ordinary Php1.00 which is 24 millimeters in diameter and weighs around 5.35 grams. The coin contains face will feature the hero’s portrait and will have the markings 150 years, Republika ng Pilipinas, and year 1861-2011. At the back of the coin it has the logo of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas with the 1 Piso word and 2011.
The Office of the President and BSP’s Monetary Board, the central bank’s policy making body, have both approved the issuance of the coin and most of the commemorative one-peso coin is now circulating and I had the chance to have some of it when I got change when I bought something at the convenient store this afternoon.
So for those who had the chance to receive the new coin this is how it looks like and please don’t be confuse. It’s worth saving a piece knowing that BSP only produces ten million pieces and it’s a commemorative 1 Peso coin in tribute to the sesquicentennial birth anniversary of our National Hero.
