After the huge success of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy, Warner Bros. Pictures brings another movie adaptation of a J. R. R. Tolkien novel entitled The Hobbit. The film adaptation will be divided in to two parts; The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, which will be shown in all cinemas in 2012 and 2013 respectively, but it now shot back to back in New Zealand. The two-part epic fantasy film directed is by Peter Jackson and stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Graham McTavish, Ken Stott, Andy Serkis, Christopher Lee, Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugo Weaving, James Nesbitt, Orlando Bloom, Evangeline Lilly, Ian Holm, Elijah Wood and Cate Blanchett.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is first of the two-part prequel of the Lords of the Rings trilogy that touches on the life of Bilbo Baggins (Freeman) who is a relative of Frodo Baggins (Wood) in latter novels of J. R. R. Tolkien. Bilbo will embark on a journey with wizard Gandalf the Grey who recruits him to join the group of thirteen (13) dwarfs headed by Thorin Oakenshield. Their goal is to reach the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain. On their journey they will face Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers on their way. And Bilbo will meet a creature on that journey that will change his life forever – Gollum.
The film will give a view on how Bilbo processes Gollum’s precious ring and how it will corrupted him and make him greed for power just like the rest who covets that powerful object. Aside from being the director, Peter Jackson is co-writer and co-producer of the two part film where its principal photography began on 21 March 2011 in Wellington, New Zealand. In his Facebook, Jackson reveals that he shot The Hobbit at 48 frames/s (frames per second) instead of the normal 24 frames/s and on a Red Digital Cinema Camera Company’s Epic camera. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is set to be released on December 14, 2012 and will be available on IMAX 3D, REAL D 3D and regular format while The Hobbit: There and Back Again is set on December 13, 2013.
