The Far Eastern University Theater Guild (FTG) opens its 91st season with Niyebe, an experimental play based on a Gabriel García Márquez short story. Featuring music by Vince Lim, choreography by Carlon Matobato, and adaptation, lyrics, and direction by Dudz Teraña, this production runs from February 12 to March 27, 2024.
Set against Europe’s harsh winter, Niyebe follows newlyweds Billy Sanchez and Nena Deconte, whose honeymoon turns tragic when a minor injury leads to Nena’s sudden death. Stranded in a foreign land, Billy spirals into grief, questioning existence while battling bureaucracy to see his wife one last time. The lead roles are played by RB Pascua, Dave Bambang, Kesiah Eunice Aritao, and Brigitta Claire Marilla, with narration by Aaron Bayani and an ensemble cast enriching the performance.
Director Dudz Teraña transforms García Márquez’s story into a poignant theatrical experience, blending music and movement to explore existentialism, class disparity, and the fragility of happiness. “It’s more than a love story—it’s about the crisis that follows loss and the longing for escape,” says Teraña.
The production is brought to life by a dedicated creative and technical team, including Stage Manager Maria Ysabel Delos Reyes, Production Manager Janah Gervacio, and Production Designer Kirstan Orbegoso, with lighting by Arvin Javier, sound by Gab Lazaro, and video projections by Shawn Tarala. Marketing efforts are led by Cassandra Herilla, Julia Nicole Ramas, and a skilled media relations team ensuring the play’s reach.
Niyebe runs at the FEU Center for the Arts Studio on select dates from February to March. Tickets are priced at PHP 100 for the FEU Community, PHP 300 for student guests, PHP 500 for regulars, and PHP 700 for VIPs. For reservations, contact FTG via their social media pages.
