Singer-artist Rob Blackburn redefines the essence of friendship in his latest single, “Tabi.”
Written as a heartfelt tribute to his true friends who supported him through life’s highs and lows, the track was produced by StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos.
“I was reflecting on what it means to have a real friend. Love isn’t limited to romance between two people of the opposite sex—it’s also important for boys to express their love for their friends. Like John Mayer said, ‘Love doesn’t always have to be about superficial romance; it’s about having someone’s back,’” Blackburn shared.
Earlier this year, Blackburn released the singles “Runaway” and “Biyernes Ng Gabi,” which leaned into his romantic side. With “Tabi,” however, the rising artist ventures into the alternative rock genre, focusing on platonic love and deep friendship.
“This song’s riff and structure are inspired by the alternative rock I grew up with. While ‘Runaway’ and ‘Biyernes Ng Gabi’ explored romantic love, ‘Tabi’ expresses love in the form of friendship. It’s a song for any close-knit barkada to tell each other, ‘I’ve got your back,’” he explained.
For Blackburn, music is more than a career—it’s a calling that provides a sense of purpose and an outlet to share his emotions and stories.
“Music has always touched my soul, and reconnecting with alternative rock reignited that connection. Since childhood, singing has been my way of expressing myself. Now, I want to ensure my voice matters and fulfill my passion by honing my songwriting skills,” he added.
In 2022, Blackburn rose to fame as a fourth-place finisher on “Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10.” He has since expanded his talents into acting, with lead roles in Pie Channel series like “The Chosen One” and “Eat Pray Love.”
