foodpanda, the leading online food and grocery platform, recently reaffirmed its dedication to combating hunger and promoting sustainability through its flagship advocacy program called “Let’s Do Our Pau-rt!” (LDOP). This commitment was announced during the unveiling of foodpanda’s 2021-2022 Corporate Social Advocacy Report, where the company showcased its outreach initiatives and significant programs over the past two years, particularly during the challenging period of COVID lockdowns.
During the event, foodpanda also introduced an enhanced version of its sustainability program, “Let’s Do Our Pau-rt.” Initially introduced late last year, LDOP aimed to contribute to an economically inclusive and environmentally resilient Philippines. With the program’s expansion, LDOP will continue to prioritize environmental protection and community development as its core pillars while incorporating the mission to combat hunger as an additional focal point.
Daniel Marogy, the CEO of foodpanda Philippines, shared that the company will participate in the 2015 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as the Philippines is a member state of the UN. Through foodpanda’s “Let’s Do Our Pau-rt” program, they aim to involve not only their fellow employees but also their clients in the sustainable campaigns they are promoting.
They have already partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) and integrated their ShareTheMeal program into the app, enabling foodpanda users to donate through the app. In collaboration with the UNWFP, the ShareTheMeal program supports local farmers in disaster-prone regions of the country. Given the Philippines’ susceptibility to frequent climate emergencies, numerous farmers and fisherfolk bear the brunt of these events annually, resulting in devastating crop failures and income loss. The ShareTheMeal program aims to provide assistance and aid to these affected individuals, enabling them to rebuild their livelihoods and mitigate the impact of such crises.
The ShareTheMeal program is an extension of a global partnership launched by the parent company Delivery Hero SE with the UNWFP. As of December 2022, the program has donated over 10 million meals globally.
foodpanda also partners with Scholars of Sustenance, a global food rescue foundation, to donate food items from its pandamart grocery delivery service to communities in need. Marogy shared that they are also planning to enlist the help of their partner restaurants to encourage them to donate their excess food items.
Throughout 2021-2022, foodpanda implemented key programs supporting its social responsibility and sustainability goals. LDOP encourages its community of employees, vendors, delivery partners, consumers, and other stakeholders to participate in taking care of the environment. The foodpanda PH Chief added that a significant part of their LDOP program focuses on promoting biking as a safe and sustainable mode of transport. “Our delivery fleet consists of 22% Ka-pandas using bicycles, which allowed us to achieve 25% of orders delivered using bicycles.”
This program is in partnership with the National Bicycle Organization (NBO) and supports biking-related activities and initiatives.
Furthermore, foodpanda has contributed to providing livelihood opportunities and building resilient communities through the pandaBIZ program and the Ka-panda fleet, as well as the BuyAnihan Palengke initiative, which connects beneficiaries—consisting of former Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), out-of-school youths, and single parents—with sources of resaleable agricultural produce.
Lastly, foodpanda’s pandaSHARES mobilized donations and emergency assistance to marginalized sectors or communities affected by natural disasters as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility program.
foodpanda’s “Let’s Do Our Pau-rt” campaign is not a one-way endeavor but invites both employees and app users to be part of a campaign that addresses different sectors and advocacies, including fighting hunger, education, providing sustainable work for various sectors, and promoting environmental sustainability.
