Filipinos will get to see the persons behind the NGO that continues to help those in distress during the pandemic as Angel Locsin and “Iba Yan” feature the Art Relief Mobile Kitchen, a food relief group, which began operating to help victims of Typhoon Yolanda, this Sunday (June 27) on A2Z, Kapamilya Channel, and Jeepney TV.
Founded by veteran photojournalist Alex Baluyut and cultural worker Precious Leano, the organization saw its beginnings in 2013. After setting up a soup kitchen in Villamor Airbase after the said typhoon struck, the organization has since set up more than 60 missions in different parts of the country, initiating them as calamities strike the country, and even in the middle of armed conflict.
One of its volunteers is Theresa Barrera, a widow with seven children. Before the pandemic came, she used to have a small canteen but was not able to save it because of the lockdowns. But Art Relief came to their help as it gave her family food to eat.
When the group needed volunteers, she immediately joined. Today, she helps to cook for the food the group gives out. She also receives allowance from this.
Find out how the group keeps the spirit of volunteerism alive in the country this Sunday on “Iba ‘Yan” on A2Z, Kapamilya Channel, and Jeepney TV, Kapamilya Online Live via the YouTube channel and Facebook page of ABS-CBN Entertainment, and iWantTFC. Outside the country, it can be streamed on The Filipino Channel.
