It is official, Jane de Leon is back, and she’s still doing Darna with the Kapamilya channel. After her renewal with Star Magic, Jane is announced that she will be doing the iconic role of Darna and it will be a series in 2021. This was confirmed by the ABS-CBN Chief Operating Officer for Broadcast Cory Vidanes on December 4, 2020.
Present at the Star Magic contract signing are ABS-CBN president and chief executive officer Carlo Katigbak, incoming Star Magic head Laurenti Dyogi, and ABS-CBN chairman Mark Lopez.
During the contract signing, they unveiled the statue of Darna as a confirmation that she’s the chosen one to play the role as Darna and her alter ego Narda.
Jane replaces Liza Soberano who resigned from the project after an injury in December 2019, Liza’s withdrawal was in August of the same year. She said that she will be back on training very soon to prepare for the role. She also revealed that before Darna she will be doing another project which was revealed during the digital media conference of Star Magic that the production will start on December 8.
Jane also is part of the month-long 29th anniversary offering of Maalaala Mo Kaya with Arjo Atayde and Sylvia Sanchez.
Darna was previously portrayed by Angel Locsin, Marian Rivera, Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Anjanette Abayari, Nanette Medved, Lorna Tolentino, and Vilma Santos. The iconic character was created by writer Mars Ravelo and artist Nestor Redondo that first appeared in Pilipino Komiks in 1950. Other iconic Ravel characters include Captain Barbel, Dyesabel (recently done by Anne Curtis on ABS-CBN), Dragonna, Flash Bomba, Lastikman, Tiny Tony, Varga, Kapitan Boom, Bonying and Maruja.
