Jhon Clyd Talili of Surigao del Sur in Mindanao emerged as the grand champion of “Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids,” edging out his four fellow grand finalists in the singing competition’s grand finals in “It’s Showtime” on Saturday (June 10).
He impressed the ‘hurados’ and viewers with his performance of “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” and garnered the highest average score of 89.90% from the combined judges’ scores and madlang people’s text votes.
As the “Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids” grand champion, he won P1 million, a house and lot, and a ‘negosyo’ package.
He beat contenders, namely second placer Keifer Sanchez, who received P200,000 and third placer Mackie Empuerto, who took home P100,000. Fourth placer Sheenna Belarmino and fifth placer Francis Concepcion were given P50,000.
Netizens tuned in to and tweeted about the grand finalists’ performances and Jhon Clyd’s victory, pushing the event’s official hashtag #TNTKidsGrandFinals to the top of Twitter’s trending topics list in the Philippines and worldwide.
Aside from their vocal battle, Jhon Clyd, Keifer, Mackie, Sheenna, and Francis also gave a special performance of “Stand by Me” to pay tribute to fathers everywhere in time for next week’s Father’s Day.
After “Tawag ng Tanghalan Kids,” the popular vocal competition will continue to look for the best singers in the country as the second year of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” kicks off on Monday (June 12) featuring the return of the ‘gong’ and ‘punong hurado’ Rey Valera.
