On April 26 to May 14, UP Playwright Theatre will be staging another Floy Quintos’ masterpiece at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater in the 2nd floor of Palma Hall, University of the Philippines-Diliman. The two-act play is the second offering of UP Playwright Theatre in their 25th season that is set in 1950 is about the painter Alfonso Ossorio and his masterpiece, the mural entitled “The Last Judgement” in the Victorias Sugar Mill in Negros Occidental.
Being used with the pleasant and calm images of Christ, the mural scandalized and shocked everyone when it was first unveiled but has come to be accepted as an important landmark in Philippine Contemporary Art.
The cast includes Nel Gomez who will be playing the role of the young Alfonso Ossorio. Joining Gomez ara are Kalil Almonte, Stella Canete-Mendoza, Julienne Mendoza, Randy Villarama, Banaue Miclat-Janssen, Alex Cortez, Jomari Jose, Micaela Pineda, Arya Herrera and the Dulaang UP ensemble.
Angry Christ is Quintos’s fourth collaboration with director/choreographer Dexter M. Santos. Their remarkable collaborations include Ang Nawalang Kapatid, Collection and Ang Huling Lagda ni Apolinario Mabini.
