After the painful election process for the new leaders, joint congress headed by newly elected Senator Frank Drillon and Congressman Sonny Belmonte officially proclaimed Rodrigo Duterte and Leni Robredo as President-elect and Vice President-elect of the Republic of the Philippines.
Congressman Neptali Gonzales and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano read the joint report of the recent canvass done in Congress and moved the resolution to proclaim Duterte and Robredo as the new President and VP that will take oath and assume office on June 30.
Meanwhile, Duterte decided to skip the Congress proclamation to accomplish several duties in Davao before taking oath as the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines. He already mentioned that he will not attend the proclamation. Only Robredo is present in the Congress during proclamation and she will assume as the 16th Vice President.
Duterte came from PDP-Laban party, while Robredo came from Liberal Party.
