It is official, Liberal Party now has its presidential candidate for 2016 election and he is the DILG Secretary Mar Roxas. Earlier today (July 31) in Club Filipino, President Benigno Aquinio III announced his endorsement that will be LP’s candidate for the next presidential election. Aquino introduced Roxas that he will be the right person that will continue his campaign for the straight path that his administration advocated. He said the right person will be Mar.
Roxas accepted the challenge of being the presidential bid of LP. He said that he will be in service to the Filipino people that he considered as his boss. Roxas’ wife Korina Sanchez was there to support him along with the rest of the supporters of LP and the team of the Aquino administration. Regarding his DILG post, there’s no confirmation yet on when he will be resigning as secretary. There’s no confirmation yes on who will be his running mate whereas the names of Senators Grace Poe, Chiz Escudero and Peter Allan Cayetano are among the top contenders for Vice President. Even the name of Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte became one of the top names on the list after their dinner few months ago.
Mar was Aquino’s Vice President during the 2010 election. He should be in the presidential bid that time until he give way to Aquino’s decision to run after the death of his mother, former President Corazon Aquino. Roxas lose the VP race over Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay but Aquino seated him as DOTC secretary in 2011 until 2012 and later in 2012 in DILG after the tragic death of Jesse Robredo.
Aside from Mar, Vice President Binay already announced his bid for the election last July 1.
