Soon on Tekken 7, the first Filipino character will be available to join the tournament named Josie Rizal, a young lady from the Philippines wears a yellow top, a blue miniskirt, and a red rabbit-like hair accessory. Her specialty is eskrima and kickboxing as her fighting style. The character was designed by Mari Shimazaki, a well known designer who work in the Bayonetta series and who worked for the design for the final boss of Tekken 7.
Josie Rizal was introduced together with the announcement of the return of Jin Kazama and Devil Jin.
According to the report posted by Rappler, Mark “MarkMan” Julio, who is a community manager for madcatz.com, a gaming resource site, said in Filipino that the character is named after Jose Rizal, the Philippines’ national hero. It was posted on his Twitter account.
But the opinions of the Filipino gamers and netizens vary regarding the attribution of the Tekken character to the national hero. Others admired the tribute of the creator of the game while others say that the character doesn’t look like a Filipino and why is she connected with the national hero. Still the character of Josie Rizal will be available soon in Tekken 7.
