Who will never forget the immortalized line of Cherie Gil’s “You’re nothing but a second rate, trying hard copycat” as she throws the wine in her glass as Lavinia Arguelles to Sharon Cuneta playing the role of Dorina Pineda in the film Bituing Walang Ningning in 1985. And later it became a hit series in its television adaptation with Sarah Geronimo as Dorina and Angelika dela Cruz as Lavinia in 2006 in ABS-CBN Primetime slot.
30 years after it became an iconic movie, Resorts World Manila and Viva Communications Inc announced the return of the iconic characters of Dorina and Lavinia in their journey to stardom, as Bituing Walang Ningning becomes a musical.
Theater veteran and actress Cris Villonco will be playing the role of Lavinia in the musical and Mark Bautista fresh from his London production of Here Lies Love where he plays former President Ferdinand Marcos he will now be playing the role of Nico Escobar a producer who supported Lavinia in his career and later found himself falling for Dorina. It was played by Christopher de Leon in the film and Ryan Agoncillo in the TV series.
Up to date, the production team are filling up the rest of the cast of the Bituing Walang Ningning and will be having an audition for the role of Dorina that will happen on February 28 to March 1 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater with requirements of 16 to 20 years old female who knows how to sing. It can be professional or amateur.
Bituing Walang Ninging: The Musical will be this summer in NPAT under the direction of veteran director Freddie Santos. Bituing Walang Ningning was based from the comics written by Nerissa Cabral.
