In connection with the strong wind and heavy rains caused by Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) that officially made its first land fall in Dolores, Eastern Samar last night (December 6) and possibly to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday (Dec. 9) with the path heading to Southern Luzon before it exit the country, leading air carrier decided to cancel their flights on Monday (Dec. 8) which was the estimated day that the storm will be affecting the Metro Manila. Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) already announce flight cancelation as of Saturday (Dec 6) as the company anticipated the Typhoon and they already canceled 48 flights to and from the Visayas and the Bicol region.
Meanwhile AirAsia already announced cancelation of all their domestic and international flights on Dec 8 and 9 ensure safety and operational concerns in connection with the Typhoon. The low-cost carrier already suspended 27 flights this Sunday.
While the flag carrier announced that 66 domestic flights of the Philippine Airlines scheduled for Monday were cancelled and this was announced as of 10AM of Sunday, Dec 7. The list of canceled flights that PAL issued include Caticlan, Tacloban, Cebu, Kalibo, Davao, Legazpi, Bacolod, Busuanga, Naga, Roxas, Puerto Princesa, Iloilo, Tagbiliran, Laoag, Zamboanga and Masbate. These are roundtrip flights under PAL.
Meanwhile canceled Manila inbound flights include Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Dumaguete, Dipolog, Bacolod, Laoag, Tagbiliran, Iloilo, Cebu, Zamboanga, Surigao, Tuguegarao and Basco.
Lastly, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) decided to shutdown 6 domestic airports in Tacloban in Leyte, Catarman in Northern Samar, Calbayog in Samar, Legazpi in Albay, Naga in Camarines Sur, and Masbate.
