They will always be the unsung heroes and the second parents who patiently guide us in our future. From our basic ABC and 123 up to the complicated Math problems and thesis defense our teachers or sometimes I called some of them as my nanay or inang secretly during my academic years. Lascano, Alcantara, Tan, Olivares, Villafania, Geronimo, Orestes, Fernandez, Leopaldo, Santos, and others were the surnames that we usually add the words Ms., Mrs., Mr., Mam or Sir when we greet them inside the classroom or hallway but the surnames I mentioned where some of the teachers who became part of my life and patiently understanding me. I am not one of those regular students who enjoyed sitting on their chairs quietly, I’m always in the noisy and standing list which I am sure one or two of you reading this article became on that list too.
But that’s not my point here on this article, my idea I want to share is looking back on what we are now aside from our best efforts to reach our dreams and goals who are those who became part of our journey? Aside from our parents, friends and loved ones which will always be on that list, our teachers who became part of our lives teaching us things from what’s written in the book to the way they challenge us to become creative, resourceful and what most of my teachers say “diskarte”. They thought us both academic and the way we should response in our lives. From the basic problem solving to the way we should be critical and throughout the years with so many teachers we meet in our lives is like they are passing us to one another until we reach our dream.
This was the beautiful message of the Gabay Guro campaign that PLDT released. From the house that his mother pass him to his teacher. From the first teach he was hand on or carried on to another and another until he reached his destination and that is a beautiful future. Here’s the campaign that really made me smile and remember the names of the teachers that became part of my life whether they are a mentor or my tormentor either way they thought me things that became part of my life.
Let’s make everyday a Teacher’s Day giving them the moment to say our thank you and all the gratitude we can give on how they did chance our lives for the better by helping us on what we are now. For students, there are times teachers can be rude or strict because they are preparing us on how the real world can be hard and cruel to us. While for easy to understand and get-along teachers, aside from being cool and friendly they also prepare us in the real world that never stop believing that there will always a hope for humanity in terms of compassion and a helping hand.
