Before we are getting reports of discrimination to Filipino maids and drivers in other countries but in the latest report posted by Rappler.com, this kind of discrimination is now happening in our own backyard and sadly even condominium such as the Icon Residences. The establishment posted a condo policy requiring their unit owners to tell their household employees to use service elevator only and not with those with the tenants. This policy created negative reactions among the netizens who saw the memorandum posted by Poch Ceballos on his Facebook account:
The said memorandum was issued by Katherine Garrido the property manager of the said condominium. Ceballos criticize the said policy calling Garrido ignorant and asking her to resign as part of the administration.
The policy said that some there are some unit owners asking why are the helpers are using the Tenant/Unit Owners elevator which it was only for their unit owners and their guest can use it. The memo also said that the helpers should use the service elevator only. According to the Icon Residences it was just a policy of the building. “There’s no issue. It’s not for the world. It’s just for the building. It has been a policy ever since the building was created,” said Garrido to Rappler. She also added that it’s hard to please anyone and this is how the world is.
Netizens reacted with the said condo policy telling that unit owners who allegedly contributed for the creation of the memo just bought the unit and not the building. And another one said that the same policy is now happening in some condominium in Makati that discriminates helpers.
With this kind of policy it shows that there are some establishments violating human rights which for Filipinos some cases of discrimination are happening in their own backyard.
