When we talk about Habitat for Humanity we always come out with one-word and that is building. It has been few years already since I became a volunteer of Habitat for Humanity, it became a passion that I embrace not because it is good to associate with but it was the feeling of being part of the family who will be living in the house that we build. Being part or volunteer of Habitat for Humanity is a vacation of building not only the houses like in Bistekville 1 in Quezon City or in Rizal where was my first community build but it is you being part of their lives symbolically from the bricks that became the foundation, the cement that bind them together, the roof that shelter them, the doors and windows that secure them and the paint that colors their face with happiness.
That is how I see how Habitat for Humanity touch the lives of million Filipinos and also their communities in various places in different part of the world. As we celebrate World Habitat Day, we should always remember that when we build with Habitat for Humanity, we are not building houses, we are building homes for the families and their dreams. In the end we are not just a builder but we became a family member to them.
For every family given a home by Habitat for Humanity, the commitment doesn’t end in giving them shelter and security alone but it is being part of making them believe that there are hopes for their dreams to come true. And during my recent visit in Bistekville 1 in Quezon City we met mothers who are living testaments of reaching dreams by having a decent home that will make the foundation of their family stronger and will serve as an inspiration to their children to reach their goals in life.
