It has been almost a year since we recall how Typhoon Yolanda brought devastation in the country especially in Eastern Visayas where it left the people in Leyte, Cebu, Tacloban, Iloilo and other regions homeless and nothing with them as they find refuge in evacuation center. During those days we became heroes in our own special way reaching out to those who are in need through volunteer program and donations both cash and in kind. 50% of total in kind donations were used clothes which are very essential to those who are in the evacuation centers and that time Electrolux joined the campaign by lending their washing machines in various areas for those who wants to wash their clothes that they rescued that time.
In line with my Electrolux save & share blog series I would like to highlight on the concept of donating clothes not just giving those who needs it physical clothing but sharing part of ourselves in every clothes we pass to others. Like we always say “we are what we wear”. Part of our selves and identity are reflected on our choice of clothes.
Luckily, two Electrolux Delightful-E ambassadors shared their views about donating clothes. They are Chef Bruce Lim & Janice Villanueva of Mommy Mundo. Chef Bruce shared that he went to Tacloban with his family to share their blessings to the kids in Tacloban particularly in Palo. “I recently went to Tacloban for a Yolanda relief program. My team and I did Kiddy Party for a community in Palo. One of things that they were asking for was clothes” Lim shared. He also encourages everyone not to stop donating even their preloved clothes not only to disaster victims but also to orphanage and other NGOs who needs it.
In terms of giving clothes, Janice shared that letting go of their favorite clothes can bring so much happiness to another person and adds meaning to life. She recalled how the people in Agutaya Palawan cried with happiness after receiving the preloved clothes. “Stories like these make you realize how small things that we normally take for granted can be big things for others , and how blessed we are to be able to bring joy and hope to others , if we just take the time.” Janice explained.
Clothes when pass to others who are in need it became more of a material things that they can wear. It became a warm embrace to those who are lost and needed love during the times they are mostly in need with it. Donating clothes is not just donating the clothes it is you passing your love and yourself to others.
