As the campaign continues to create awareness and raise funds for the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) also known as the Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Broadway Diva and Filipino actress Lea Salonga and 2NE1 member Dara (Sandara Park) accepted the challenge of Ice Bucket Challenge that was given to them.
In her YouTube Channel Lea Salonga mentioned she was challenged by Urs Bühler of Il Divo to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. And after Lea fulfilled the challenge she now nominated her friends Glee actor Darren Criss, her Sana Maulit Muli co-star Aga Muhlach and fellow The Voice of thePhilippines coaches Apl.d.Ap, Bamboo and Sarah Geronimo to take it too. Here’s Lea’s video:
Meanwhile in her Instragram account, Sandara also accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge which was given to her by Korean actress-singer Lee Jung-hyun. She now nominated singer Im Soo-jung, actor Lee Jun-ki, and her brother and MBLAQ member Cheondoong. Here’s the video of Sandara:
ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was a campaign to create awareness on the neurodegenerative disease with various causes. With the campaign aside from the awareness it helps to generate funds for the research on how to cure and prevent to the said disease. For the people with ALS their situation characterized by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle atrophy, and difficulty in speaking (dysarthria), swallowing (dysphagia), and breathing (dyspnea).
The rule of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is that when a person was nominated he or she will fulfill it within 24 hours or he or she must made a donation worth $100. And those who fulfill it can nominate others to do the challenge. Among the personalities that joined the campaign includes US President Barack Obama, former US President George W. Bush, Justin Bieber, LeBron James, Lady Gaga, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
For the others the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge became a fad that’s why others joined. Some may dislike it but in my case the real objective of the challenge is to create noise in a viral way that will create awareness on a disease that people doesn’t know yet but it really strikes hard to the family that was affected. With the campaign in US and also in United Kingdom it will help researchers understand more of the disease and at the same time find a cure for it.
