Joining the growing community of theater companies in the Philippines, The Sandbox Collective celebrates their first presentation at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, in Makati City from July 11 to 27 with the Off-Broadway inspirational hit Dani Girl. It will run for 15 performances only that will follow the story of nine year-old Dani Lyons who fights for her life as she battles leukemia at the early age.
Dani Girl will take us in her in her broad imagination together with her guardian angel Raph, her film-obsessed roommate Marty, and her teddy bear Mr. Fritz, to get back her hair after losing it to chemo, and find the answer to the question, “Why is cancer?” Theater goers will embrace Dani’s journey filled with inspiration as she confronts pain and so many questions in life.
The play was presented in perspective of a child that will surely amaze the viewers in terms of Dani’s imagination and the way she confronts questions that she have in her mind provocatively. The musical was created by Michael Kooman and Christopher Dimond and it explores the universal themes of life in the face of death, hope amidst despair, and the peerless power of a child’s imagination.
Dani Girl was already presented in theaters in Australia, Canada, and the United States. And it will be first in Asia under The Sandbox Collective. Playing the role of Dani is Rebecca Coates while the guardian angel Ralph will be played alternately by Lorenz Martinez and Reb Atadero. Dani Girl is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
