Star Cinema in its 20th Anniversary in producing quality and family oriented film in the Philippines in partnership with Viva Films presents the tandem of Coco Martin and Sarah Geronimo for the very first time in the big screen together with Ruffa Gutierrez. With the tag line Valentine’s Day in Summer, Maybe This Time brings another love story with mature approach along with the acceptance and finding ways to forgive. Directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng, the film is currently showing in theaters nationwide and will be shown in selected territories in other countries including Middle East and North America very soon.
Maybe This Time gives a fresh characterization to the characters played by lead actors of the movie which will be new to the audience of Star Cinema who will be watching the film. The story line is simple on the concept of love, acceptance, closure and second chances but what’s good with the film is having the artists almost similar to their current situation or somewhat near to it. So here’s my three (3) reasons why we should watch Maybe This Time:
- Tough yet softer Monica. We saw Ruffa as a manipulative and controlling boss in the teleserye I Love Betty La Fea but in the film there was a two side of her story giving the viewers the chance to understand her the way she talk and do things in the story. As Monica we will surely enjoy how she take control in the lives of Steph (Sarah) and Tonio (Coco) on how it will favor on her likings but behind that manipulation is a woman trying to be strong yet she’s so week.
- The family conflict of Steph. We saw how Sarah became that loving daughter to Mommy Devine and Daddy Delfin in real life. Meanwhile in most of her film and teleseryes she will always that struggling daughter who will do everything for the love of her family. There’s a need to make her mature for the story and the way to do it is to break her once again like in It Takes A Man and A Woman, a broken hearted person and now with a conflict within her family. With broken soul, Steph brings out the maturity in Sarah which viewers will surely feel the pain in her character and will join her struggle in every scene.
- Coco and Tonio as One. We are all aware in some lapses of Coco as a person. His speech defect, problem in speaking English and his former work as a janitor in Canada. Coco is very open with his lapses in life and it became his inspiration to struggle more. This is where the writers of the movie capitalizes in creating the character of Tonio his lapses that made the characters of Steph and Monica connects with him. Wanting the old person that made him lovable and the other one changing in order to be likable.
The team up of the three characters are very unusual showing all of them as opposing to each other but in the end that “differences” gave them uniqueness in adding spice in the story. After all Maybe This Time talks about acceptance, second chances and finding real happiness aside from the love of course. By the way that leche plan is very tempting on pandesal which I will try very soon!
