Opening the 2014 Filipino National Artist Collectors Series of Freeway is the National Artist for Literature, Mr. Bienvenido Lumbera or popularly known as Tatay Bien to those who became his students and followed his creations. Tatay Bien is a poet who introduced a new aesthetic to traditional Tagalog literature, turned dramatist then professor to top universities including Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, University of the Philippines and University of Santo Tomas to teach Literature, Philippine Studies and Creative Writing.
Being part of the 2014 Filipino National Artist Collectors Series of Freeway, Tatay Bien’s The Yaya’s Lullaby will be featured that will include 10 piece fashion collection tribute that composed of vibrant floral mosaic prints matching Lumbera’s literary aesthetic. It has rich colored prints on halter sleeveless tops, shirts, and dresses in flowy cuts which can be worn from day-to-night make up the collection that will be in stores this May. The collection uses comfortable material such as satinized twills and poplins for the casual work wear to stretch georgettes and knits for the weekend get-up.
During the official launch in Glorietta branch of Freeway, he was joined by another word player and rapper Gloc-9 who was very honored to know that Tatay Bien is one of his fans.
The Filipino National Artist Collectors Series of Freeway started in 2009 where it featured National Artists including Nick Joaquin, Jose Garcia, and F. Sionil Jose of Literature, Ang Kiukok, Vicente Manansala, Botong Francisco and Juan Luna of Visual Arts, Levi Celerio and and Lucio San Pedroi of Music and Ramon Valera of Fashion.
