After her successful portrayal of Maria Callas in Terence Macnally’s Master Class in 2010 and Liliane Le Fleur in Nine in 2012, award-winning actress and now one of the lead stars of ABS-CBN’s Ikaw Lamang Cherie Girl returns to the stage of Carlos P. Ramulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati City to play the role of Diana Vreeland in Full Gallop. Presented by MyOwn Mann Productions, Inc. and Actor’s Actors Inc., in the Philippines, the Full Gallop will be having its limited run in March 15, 16, 21 and 24 under the direction of Bart Guingona.
Written by Mary Louise Wilson and Mark Hampton, Full Gallop shows a monologue of Vreeland inside in her apartment in Park Avenue. Fresh from her European tour from England, Milan and Paris she recounts her tour and also the years of her career as editor in Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue magazines, and as a member of the International Cafe Society. The one-woman play is a collaboration of narration of Vreeland’ s life with sarcasm and humor to make the presentation lively and catchy for the theater goers.
As always Cherie Gil did a wonderful job in portraying Vreeland on stage the same way she pulled off Callas few years ago. Being a fashion icon and doing villain in both TV and movie, Cherie can easily bring out the character in her with class and sarcasm at the same time. Theater goers will surely love her as she moves around the stage expressing how huge is the character that requires exaggeration in her movement.
At the same time with Cherie Gil’s powerful performance, the stage set up complimented with the extravagant character of Vreeland. The details of the set from the red walls with flower and line designs brings out how classy the character is. Not to mentions the furnitures and details of books, flower vases and others including the dramatic lighting. All were in the perfect place even the voice of G Tongie as the French secretary of Vreeland in the play.
Full Gallop is a classy and witty which everyone will surely enjoy that’s why I suggest that it is better to reserve your tickets on this limited time only presentation that run on March 15 and 21 at 8:00 p.m. and on March 16 and 23, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. (matinee).
