With the ultimate throwback campaign for their acquired foreign titles, ABS-CBN will be bringing back two of their top-rating and all time favorite foreign series that viewers will surely enjoy. The Kapamilya network will be bringing back the phenomenal Taiwan drama Meteor Garden and the Korean love story My Girlfriend is a Gumiho on Philippine TV. With the announcement of the two shows returning on television both trended on Twitter that shows that viewers are very much looking forward on the release of Meteor Garden and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho on TV.
Meteor Garden became an international phenomenon that started in Taiwan where it features Barbie Hsu, Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Vanness Wu and Ken Chu as the lead stars of the drama series. It aired in Taiwan in 2001 under Chinese Television System (CTS). In the Philippines it became a later afternoon habit for Filipinos in 2003. It aired several times on the Kapamilya network and also it was acquired by other stations in later date. The story focus on a girl named Shan Chai who was insisted by her family to study in a rich university and dominated by arrogant students namely Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, Mei Zuo, and Xi Men and they called themselves as F4 or Flower 4. Not aware who they are Shan Chai ended up became their enemies and endured all the wrath of the F4 and their supporters. But in the end with her strong personality and persistence, Dao Ming Si fell in love with Shan Chai and so is Hua Ze Lei.
With the success of Meteor Garden, there were adaptations in Japan (Hana Yori Dango) and South Korea (Boys Over Flowers). And during those years there were rumors that even ABS-CBN will be doing a remake but still there were no plans yet. But this is for sure Kapamilya Network will be bringing back Meteor Garden on March 31 on free TV and also on Jeepney TV on cable.
My Girlfriend is a Gumiho or originally My Girlfriend Is a Nine-Tailed Fox was a Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) TV series that aired in South Korea in 2010 and stars Lee Seung-gi and Shin Min-ah. It was dubbed in Filipino and aired in 2011. The story focus on an aspiring actor named Dae-woong who was hypnotized by a mythical nine-tailed fox named Mi-ho to draw nine tails on the fox to release her on the painting. Within 100 days they must be together in order to fulfill the plan of Mi-ho to become a human but the consequence is that Dae-woong will die if it happens. And worse they fell in love with each other without knowing the negative effect. My Girlfriend is a Gumiho will be returning to ABS-CBN on March 17 within the Kapamilya Gold block along with Meteor Garden.
