Following the huge success of Bride For Rent of Kim Chiu and Xian Lim as the salvo of Star Cinema for 2014, another film captures the hearts of the viewers on Valentine’s Day which is Starting Over Again. These blockbuster drama film stars Piolo Pascual, Toni Gonzaga and Iza Calzado under the direction of Olivia Lamasan already earned Php 150 million in just 4 days in cinemas nationwide. The said announcement was made formal in Buzz Ng Bayan last February 16 through Boy Abunda.
The film marks the first ever tandem of Piolo and Toni on the big screen after their Sprite commercial more than 13 years ago. From the usual romantic comedy expertise of Toni, the actress became more serious on her character as she played Ginny in the story returning to the life of Marco played by Piolo after leaving him without closure. With new life and new love, Ginny will do anything to patch things up with Marco but will Marco after being broken open his heart once again for her?
As for Iza, we saw her stint in Milan with Piolo and Claudine Barretto. What’s good with Iza is that her character doesn’t need much line and let her eyes show what’s inside her heart. Only few actors can do such things like what Iza do and it was a good choice for Star Cinema to have her as the Patty in the story.
As for the storyline, it may have that simple concept of wanting to have closure and second chance but it became more complex on how Carmi Raymundo (the head writer) and Direk Olive made it more realistic and will appeal on the modern movie goers. For those who are thinking that it is a “cliché” type of film, it is not. The Starting Over Again journey will take us in the three characters where we might see ourselves. Ginny who wanted to have a second chance, Marco who longs for answer and Patty who will stand beside the person she love and fight for it.
Starting Over Again, is not an ordinary Valentine’s Day film Star Cinema instead it’s a kind of film that will take us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and will ask us in the end who among the characters we can see relate with. We saw this kind of challenging film of Direk Olivia during The Mistress and Milan where the story is near to reality.
The film after four days will surely harvest more positive feedback that will lead to its blockbuster success. Starting Over Again is still showing and part of Star Cinema’s 20 years offering.
