Surprisingly who ever thought a simple game like Flappy Bird dominated the number 1 spot for both App Store and Google Play for several weeks already for the category of free mobile gaming app. Developed by Hanoi, Vietnam based developed Dong Nguyen and published by .GEARS Studios, Flappy Bird offers a simple graphics with a simple goal in the game. But unfortunately it is not that simple despite of the main control of the game is just tapping the screen and see the bird fly and fall as it tries to pass the pipes without hitting it.
The background of the game reminds of the iconic Mario Bros pipes that giving the players a nostalgic feeling which an instant liking for those smartphone users who are in their 20s and above. The mood of the background changes to daytime and night time everytime the game was reset along with the color of the bird which can be green, blue, yellow and red.
Because the main control is just tapping the screen to command the bird to flap its wings, the game give the gamers a limited control whether to move the bird forward or backward so it can fully aim itself to pass in the pipes. With this limitation it gives the games the frustration everytime they fail in the game. Which in my case and some of my gaming friends a lot.
For every 10 points the gamer receives a medal which just like other mobile apps they can share it to their social media – remember Temple Run and Angry Birds. There’s also scoreboard where you can compare with your friends and other Flappy Bird gamers.
Flappy Bird can be addicting too because it is really a perfect time killer for those who are in the office, school or just waiting. The frustration of the gamer fuels their aim to make a better score. The app was already in the App Store for iOS devices last May 2013 and later introduced to Google Play for Android devices. The device became a huge hit starting January 2014.
