In line with the freezing of his bank accounts that was made by the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA), People’s Champ and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquaio confirmed that the said move of the Bureau of Internal Revenue thru CTA was very hard especially know that his winnings from his fight against Brandon Rios last Sunday will be donated to the affected families of Super Typhoon Yolanda where Tacloban City is included. Pacquaio revealed that he need to borrow money from his friends for personal use and for his activity in Tacloban City which he wanted to help.
Pacquaio with tone of disappointment mentioned that the money deposited in his bank accounts came from his boxing career where endured pain just to bring enjoyment and pride for the country. He said that it didn’t came from PDAF or Pork Barrel unlike other politicians whose bank accounts were never been frozen. Pacquaio’s bank accounts were frozen because of the Php 2.2 Billion tax case issued to him because his accountant failed to report in his income tax returns (ITR) the millions of dollars in taxes that he paid in the US in relation to his fight purses from 2008 to 2009.
In regards with his appeal, BIR issued a warrant of garnishment to banks, which reportedly prompted the banks to freeze Pacquiao’s accounts. It freezing of account should be two weeks earlier of Pacquaio’s fight but BIR moves it wherw it will not interfere to Manny Pacquaio’s fight with Brandon Rios in Macau.
