2 days after the People’s Champ and Sarangani Representative Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao unanimous won over American Brandon Rios at their boxing fight in Macau where he won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) international welterweight title, Manny Pacquiao is now facing another challenge which is the Php 2.2-billion tax case issued to him by the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA).
The Php 2.2-billion tax case came from the failure of Pacquaio’s accountant to report his income tax returns (ITR) the multi-million-dollar taxes collected by the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) from his prize winnings for the years 2008 to 2009 amounting to $ 28 Million. During the 2008 and 2009; Pacquaio defended various titles against Juan Manuel, David Rios, Oscar de la Hoja, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.
According to Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr., chairman of the House committee on games and amusement that the CTA order against Manny Pacquiao is shocking and ill-timed which as of this moment he should be celebrating his victory for the country and not facing the freezing of his bank deposits.
