Starting September 29 at 10PM, History Channel will be airing a very ambitious and expensive series with the amount of more than $ 40 million that offers an action-packed story in one of history’s fascinating tale – the Vikings. It is a 9-part TV series that will be airing every Sunday evening in the History Channel and directed by Michael Hirst, the award winning director who became the producer of the hit series The Tudors and Camelot.
Vikings follows the amazing journey of brotherhood, family and survival of the Norse, the Germanic people who raided, traded, explored and settled in wide areas of Europe, Asia and North Atlantic. The series focuses on the character of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a Viking warrior who will bring the viewers on a journey of the great Norse legend and in the pages of the history.
Joining the character of Ragnar is the local chieftain Earl Heraldson (Gabriel Byrne) whom he will develop odds with because of his ambitions. Also there’s Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard), a boat builder who will be Ragnar’s great ally and will lead him to the rough and thrilling journey at the northern seas. Aside from the journey and adventure, there’s the love story with Ragnar and his wife Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), a respected warrior in her own right. And fluidly woven into the breathtaking plot are the stories of his brother Rollo (Clive Standen), a fierce yet jealous fighter; Earl Haraldson’s wife Siggy (Jessalyn Gilsig), the dutiful beauty with questionable loyalty; and monk Athelstan (George Blagden), who finds that his Christian morals do not have a place in the Vikings’ pagan society.
