Everyone admires the acting of Leam Neeson in his Taken movie where he tries to save his abducted daughter and wife in the sequel. In reality this things happen most especially to children who doesn’t have enough the strength to defend themselves. We saw how 26 helpless students Newtown, Connecticut, children became victims of rape in areas like in South Africa and India, and children became victims of violence because of bullying and war.
In the report released by the International Labour Organization (ILO) of the United Nation (UN) that in 2005 up to date there are around 1.2 million children are trafficked every year. And in the report of World Health Organization (WHO) that there are some 150 million girls and 73 million boys under 18 years old experienced sexual violence and exploitation. That’s why United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) together with Liam Neeson as the voice of the campaign “End Violence Against Children” encourages everyone to join the fight any form of violence against children.
In the video that UNICEF releases they encourage everyone to recognize violence against children, join global, national or local movements to end it and bring together new ideas to focus collective action on this goal. In the Philippines, UNICEF partners with the government and collect evidence on the prevalence and pervasiveness of violence against children, with a particular focus on sexual violence. According to Abdul Alim, the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) and Deputy Representative UNICEF Philippines it will help them address the underlying drivers of sexual violence against children and improve the support to survivors.
The issue of child violence will leave survivors not only physical scars but also the trauma that affects their emotions and development. We can be part of the solution and making everyone aware of child violence.
