In line with the 20th anniversary of Star Cinema and the successful partnership with Mario Maurer for the film Suddenly It’s Magic in 2012, they are now bringing the Thai movie of Mario entitled Pee Mak with the horror comedy theme. It will be shown in cinemas nationwide beginning August 28, 2013 after the back to back box office line up from Four Sisters And A Wedding, Tuhog (currently showing) and Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo (showing on July 31).
Pee Mak stars Mario Maurer, Davika Hoorne, Pongsathorn Jongwilas, Nattapong Chartpong, Auttarut Kongrasri and Kantapat Permpoonpatcharasook. It is about the famous Thailand folklore from the Mae Nak Phra Khanong legend that happened within the time of the Rattanakosin Kingdom where a soldier named Mak (Maurer) who needs to leave his village Phra Khanong along with her pregnant wife Nak (Davika Hoorne) at home. Being a hero to his new found four friends that he saved from war he brought the four home to start a life in their village and to meet his wife and their child.
Unknown to Mak that her wife already died and the person he knows with a child is already a ghost. Four of his friends and the villagers are aware of it but they don’t have the guts to tell to him. Here’s the video of Pee Mak to be exclusively distributed by Star Cinema in the Philippines.
Pee Mak was directed by blockbuster director Banjong Pisanthanakun who did the box-office horror films like Shutter, 4BIA and Phobia 2. Aside from the Philippines was also released in other Asian countries including Taiwan, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. It reached USD 33 million with 10 million tickets sold in Thailand.
Pee Mak is the second Thai movie distributed by Star Cinema after ATM: Er Rak Error last year and the fourth Chinese Zodiac and Amigo.
