Access to clean water is one of the basic and important needs of a human being in order to live. But for others it is not easy to get water from where they are living particularly in high places or desserts where they need to travel hours or steep and dangerous path in order to get a pail or two and need to back with the same distance to reach home. This is their routine everyday just to have water for their family, even Filipinos living in high and secluded places where commercial water providers cannot reach them experience the same dilemma everyday. Coca-Cola Philippines sees the problem and being water is their main ingredient for their products they created the Agos Ram Pump Project that will benefit hard to reach communities in different regions in the country and bring water straight to their faucets.
Together with the Earth Day Network Philippines (EDNP) who helps in communicating with the partner communities that will benefit on this project they implemented the Agos Ram Pump Project together with the logistics and building of the equipments. And few days ago, I had the chance to witness the turnover of the 34th Agos Ram Pump to the 300 households in Baranggay Mascap in Rodriguez, Rizal. Families in Mascap need to walk everyday on a 1-kilometer steep and muddy path in order for them to get water on the stream.
But now, with the Agos Ram Pump situated in the path of the stream collects water without the use of electricity only water pressure and brings the water to a 10, 000 liter tank that has faucets so families can get water from it with just few walks from their doorsteps.
Up to date there are 25, 000 individuals in Bataan, Mountain Province, Pangasinan, Palawan, Cebu, Bohol, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Biliran, Iligan City, General Santos City, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Davao City, Cagayan, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Eastern Samar, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Davao del Sur and Surigao del Sur benefit from the Agot Ram Pump Project. Being the Baranggay Mascap in Rodriguez, Rizal has the 34th Ram Pumps there will be 66 more to be implemented within the country and aiming there will be 40, 000 more individuals that will benefit from it by the end of the year.
