Timeless as always, the film The Great Gatsby that stars stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgerton and directed by Baz Luhrmann was the fifth film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel of the same name and still it shows the grandeur of the film in terms of the ambitions of every characters for power and freedom that later turned to green and the end they were just been deceived. Currently showing in all cinemas nationwide, The Great Gatsby is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Set in the 1922, the film introduces us to Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) a wealthy man who loves to throw huge parties and welcomes his bond salesman neighbor Nick Carraway (Maguire) in one of his events. Everyone wanted to meet the famous Gatsby but only few have the chance to see him personally. Behind the extravagant parties thrown in his mansion in the Long Island no one knows where his wealth came from. Until Carraway together with her cousin Daisy (Mulligan), Tom (Edgerton), and Jordan (Elizabeth Debicki) slowly unfolds the mystery behind his name that lead to a tragedy that will change their lives.
The film is available in 3D format but honestly you don’t need to watch it on 3D because the recreation of Gatsby’s world is somewhat perfect that you need to enjoy it without the glasses at all. Being a huge fan of the novel, the film created the grandeur of the scenes especially the parties, the slum and most of all the characters of Jay, Daisy and Nick on how fate plays them with ambition to be powerful, free and to feel loved until that ambition eats them alive and nothing left for them.
It runs more than 2 hours and it is more a talking kind of film so expect long lines that will not cater to movie goers who loves action and comedy. The film has a tri-dimensional approach despite that it was Nick who narrates the story but it gives us to see the emotions of Dairy, Jay and even Tom in the story. The Great Gatsby is a kind of movie that mystery lovers will surely enjoy from the time ambition plays its part in all the characters and they start to be greedy with power, love and glory and until everything ended because they were all just deceived in the story of what they thought a happy ending.
