Being the 5th and 7th Mayor of the City of Manila, Mayor Alfredo Lim will now leave his position to give way to the actor and former President Joseph “Erap” Ejercito Estrada who will be assuming the said post by June 30. Estrada receives 343,993 votes versus Lim that only has 308,544 votes. Joining him in his term as Mayor of the City of Manila is the Vice Mayor Isko Moreno who is a re-lectionist.
Before assuming the position as the 8th Mayor of the City of Manila, Erap became a Mayor in the City of San Juan and later became a Senator, Vice President and President where his term only lasted for 4 years because of the anomaly thrown at him that led to his ousting. Estrada transferred his residency to Manila last year in order to participate in the local election while in 2010 he landed second during the Presidential Election.
Despite of the criticism thrown at him because of his records during his presidency and even personal life, Erap manages to dominate the poll and will become the mayor of the city by June 30. Estrada succeeded in his strong machinery in terms of political ads that even reached the national TV and the recent incident during their miting de avance that gained sympathy from the Manileños and the viewers. But another reason of the 35, 000 differences were because of the influence of what we call the religious vote where the famous bloc voting of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) favored to Estrada.
With Estrada and Moreno taking the lead for Manila how will it change the lifestyle and economy of the Manileños with a seasoned actor politician like Erap who assumed most of the political positions during his political career together with a vice mayor that once sided to the outgoing mayor?
