After closing their social networking service last December and maintained their Marketplace component, the social networking sites that offered photo, video and blogging service since 2004 will be officially discontinuing their business by May 31, 2013. The announcement was made by Jack Madrid, Multiply Country Manager in the Philippines through a newsletter to their local subscribers. He stated that marketplace will be closing by May 6 and will only have roughly three weeks to let the merchants settle their transactions to their clients.
At the same time the three weeks also their way to migrate all their contents to other ecommerce platforms before they officially close business by May 31, 2013. This is Multiply’s way to fully work on the disbursement of the earnings of the merchants who became part of their marketplace since they establish it in 2007 and became its handle re-launch in August 2012.
Multiply then became a successful social networking sites along with Friendster where they became Open Web Awards finalist in 2008. They partnered in various TV Networks like ABS-CBN and home of different brands and campaigns. They created categories including Business, Computers & Internet, Cultures & Community, Entertainment & Arts, Friends & Family, Games, Government & Politics, Health & Wellness, Hobbies & Crafts, Money & Investing, Places & Travel, Recreation & Sports, Religion & Beliefs, Romance & Relationships, Schools & Education, Science & History, and Other to make interest “search” for their users easy.
With the closing of Multiply, it will be the end of another era for social networking service sites like them where as Friendster changes their approach in business to a gaming site in 2011 as Facebook became in control in this kind of field.
